MS series

Magnetostrictive linear position sensor

Design & function

The linear transducers in our MS series operate using transit time measurement between two points of a magnetostrictive waveguide. Displacement is measured by a movable magnet, the distance from the zero point of which corresponds to the segment being measured. The transit time of a transmitted pulse is directly related to this segment and is converted into the measurement signal in the electronics.

The waveguide is protected in a pressure-resistant stainless steel tube or extruded profile, while the electronics are housed in an aluminium housing.

The MS series transducer has a magnet in a ring that moves contactlessly across the rod. A variation on this is our MP series, where the magnet is housed in a slider connected to the moving part of the machine.
