Linear displacements

Contactless and wear-free measurement of absolute positions

Our displacement sensors are available with various interfaces and measurement ranges, depending on specific needs. Most displacement sensors are available with protection classes up to IP69K and offer high vibration and shock resistance. We also supply displacement sensors for ATEX environments.

Measuring linear displacement with a draw wire

In addition to various linear encoders, Procim also supplies draw-wire systems that can measure linear displacement. These systems, with flexible steel cables, can be used in conjunction with our rotary encoders to convert linear movements of up to 60 meters into rotational motion. The cable drum is coupled to the shaft of an encoder. As a result, any change in the displacement of the measuring cable causes the encoder shaft to rotate, which can then be recorded. A spring keeps the measuring cable under tension, preventing sagging and avoiding measurement errors. The measuring drum moves axially along a spindle, ensuring that the cable is wound accurately into the spiral groove of the drum. The cable outlet can be equipped with a brush to prevent water or dust from entering the drum.
