Design & function

The encoders from the AxN series are designed for applications where precise position and speed measurement must be combined with functional safety. The encoder features a robust housing made of seawater-resistant aluminum or stainless steel and a compact design with a diameter of 58 mm. Connection is made via an M12x1 connector.

For position measurement, the AxN uses optical sensors. A single revolution is measured with a resolution of up to 4,194,304 steps (22 bits). In the multiturn version (ARN), the number of revolutions is determined absolutely via a mechanical multiturn gearbox, with a measurement range of up to 4096 revolutions. The AxN is available with a CANopen or CANopen Safety interface. When using CANopen Safety, both position and speed values are transmitted in accordance with IEC 61508 (SIL2). The encoder features a redundant measuring system, where the measured values are continuously compared and monitored. Speed is determined based on an adjustable gate time of 1 to 1000 ms, allowing the encoder to be optimally configured for the application.
